Editing

Manuscript Critique: This is a big-picture overview of your manuscript.  I will read through your manuscript and provide feedback on character, flow, theme, pacing, and any other areas that may be of concern to you. I will point out areas that may need improvement and make suggestions. This feedback will be in the form of a detailed editorial letter (5-8 pages long) that I will write up in Microsoft Word and send to you as an email attachment.  I will not do any grammatical corrections or sentence-level editing, but I may make a few helpful notes or query in the margins. This service is best to get once you have a complete manuscript but before you have sent it to a line or copy editor. Rate: .015/ word

Copyediting: This is editing for grammar, punctuation, repetition, word choice, sentence structure, and readability. I include line editing (as needed) in my copyediting service; I won’t just be adding commas and checking grammar, but I will be editing to make sure your sentences and paragraphs flow so that your writing is in its most accessible form for your readers. I will also provide you with a style sheet to help maintain consistency throughout the editing process. Rates start at .025/ word

Proofreading: This is the final stage of editing. The manuscript should only be submitted for proofreading once all other levels of editing have been completed. The proofreader is the last line of defense and makes sure there are no typos and no glaring errors or inconsistencies in grammar and punctuation. Rates start at .015/ word

Picture Book Copyedit: I will do a thorough edit of your children’s picture book,–polishing grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure (under 1500 words) for a flat fee of $100.

Consulting: Do you still have lingering questions after a manuscript critique or want to run some ideas by me? We can schedule a phone call, or I can help by email exchange. My rate for consulting is $45/ hour.

Please note: Effective June 1, 2023, you can book ahead! I will charge a 25% non-refundable deposit to reserve your space in my schedule. Another 25% will be due when I am scheduled to begin your edit, and the last 50% is due once your edited manuscript is complete and ready to be delivered to you.
